Private Tours

The High Line may be about two stories high—but it’s hundreds of stories deep. Get the whole story by signing up for a private tour.

Schedule your tour

Private tours are an excellent way to learn more about the High Line. These intimate experiences are led by our expert High Line Docents, and they can be tailored to your interest in architecture, history, horticulture, art, and more.

Please request your tour at least three weeks in advance so we can arrange for a docent to lead your group. When possible, we will try to accommodate tours requested with less than three weeks’ notice. Please note that in cases where we are unable to find a docent on short notice, the $50 deposit will be forfeited.

Tours can be booked daily from 9am until an hour before sunset. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, starting at the top of the Gansevoort Street stairs and moving north through the park. Tour rates are based on the number of attendees:

Up to 10 people: $250
11 to 20 people: $450
21 to 30 people: $650
31 to 40 people: $850
41 to 50 people: $1,000
51 to 60 people: $1,100

The High Line is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All tour proceeds support the ongoing maintenance, operation, and programming of the park.

Scheduling a tour is easy! Simply fill out the inquiry form at least three weeks in advance of your requested date, and we’ll be in touch as soon as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to email tours@thehighline.org.

The fine print

We require a non-refundable* $50 deposit with a credit card with each tour request. Once we have secured a docent for the tour, we’ll follow up with you by email to confirm your tour and request your balance due, which must be paid within three business days. Any tour that is not paid in full within this timeframe will be canceled. All tours are rain or shine! Once the tour is confirmed, it cannot be refunded and the date cannot be changed.

*If we are unable to accommodate your requested tour date(s), your $50 deposit will be refunded.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the tour meet?
The tour meets up on the High Line at the Gansevoort Street entrance at the southern end of the park. You may enter the park via stairs or elevator at the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Streets. Any elevator outages will be noted on the Elevator Status page.

Where does the tour end?
The tour ends at the north end of the park, at 30th Street and 10th Avenue, near Hudson Yards.

Can I request a tour that starts at Hudson Yards and ends at the south end of the park?
The story of the park begins at Gansevoort and Washington streets, so it’s preferable to start south and work your way north. However, we can try to make this accommodation if requested.

Do your docents accept tips?
No. However, if you would like to make a donation to the park in their honor, you may do so online. You can also donate cash at our information carts when they are open. (Hours are May 1 – October 31, Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 6pm.)

Are private tours ever canceled?
We will only cancel a private tour in case of extreme weather. As an outdoor park, the safety of our visitors and volunteers is paramount. If the tour is canceled by us, we will refund your entire tour fee. If you cancel the tour once the balance due is paid, the tour fee is not refundable.
