Jean Desravines

Jean Desravines, Chief Administrative Officer at the High Line, works closely with the Executive Director to drive strategic initiatives in alignment with the organization’s vision and values. With leadership across critical domains, including People and Culture (HR), Legal, Finance, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA), Data and Evaluations, and Special Projects, he spearheads comprehensive company-wide programs, serving as a strategic partner in organizational success. As a key advisor to the Executive Director, he provides insights on strategic decisions and leads the development of inclusive workplace initiatives. Additionally, Desravines assumes leadership responsibilities in the Executive Director’s absence, to ensure competence and continuity in operations.

Before joining Friends of the High Line, Desravines served as the Chief People and Equity Officer at Educational Alliance, where he played a pivotal role in guiding the organization through challenging budgetary circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic. His transformative leadership led to a substantial increase in the operating budget, surging from $40 million to over $52 million, marking a historic high in the organization’s 140-year history. Additionally, Desravines spearheaded the development of critical processes that supported the organization’s transition from the “introduction” to the “growth” stage of the business life cycle. He devised a funding strategy to bolster the minimum wage and implemented a compensation process that equitably recognized all qualified staff members. This commitment to equity and financial stability underscores his significant contributions.

In his prior role as the Managing Director of Human Resources at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Desravines implemented HR strategies to elevate employee engagement and drive the organization’s short- and long-term objectives. Notably, he provided strategic leadership in DEIA, leading to the creation of a robust and diverse recruitment and internship program. His innovative approach resulted in remarkable improvements organization-wide for staff diversity—including a 38% increase in hiring, a 31% rise in internal promotions, and a 26% enhancement in the retention rate among people representing diverse gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, races, and other previously underrepresented populations. Desravines played an instrumental role in reshaping NRDC’s hiring processes to incorporate equity principles, reduce unconscious bias, and cultivate a more diverse workforce.

Desravines’ earlier professional journey includes roles such as Associate Director of Human Resources at The Children’s Aid Society and Vice President, Manager of Recruitment and Employee Relations at Amalgamated Bank. His areas of expertise encompass cultural transformation, talent acquisition and management, and the development of strategic initiatives.

Desravines holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources and Marketing from Adelphi University and earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with magna cum laude distinction from Louisiana State University.
