The buildings can seem gigantic, like… King Kong. But being up on the High Line feels different. It gives you an uncommon view of the city. The juxtaposition of the natural and the man made, the new and the old, it sparks my creativity. As a creator — I am a freelance photographer (a sunset chaser in my free time) — a new perspective or way to look at or think about my surroundings is like mainlining inspiration.

I love walking the High Line; just enjoying the sounds and sights of the city. Looking out across the Hudson – I mean, look at that view! – especially on days that I catch a sunset, I tap into so much of my creativity here.

Twenty years ago, it was the people in the community who saved this place from being bulldozed, and look what it became! We made this! I worry that in another 20 years our garden in the sky will be surrounded by a homogenous, gentrified neighborhood; a community that has no identity. It’s important to me to preserve the city’s history, protect the community, and defend the neighborhood’s identity.

The High Line is #MyLine.
