I like to get my steps in – my “grandma steps” as my daughter says – while taking in the pretty flowers and the beautiful people. I don’t have to worry about the noise, or traffic, or stopping for the lights when I’m up here. I can just walk freely. And if I get tired, I can sit down on a bench and just take in the scenery while I rest.
The High Line is my morning view; it’s what I see when I look out my bedroom window. Most of us New Yorkers don’t have our own backyard, so I feel so lucky to be able to look out my apartment and see all these plants and trees. It’s my big, beautiful backyard in the sky.
When my grandkids come over to visit me — all six of them — they can’t just go wild and be kids in my little apartment. So, I take them to go play in the backyard: the High Line. They get to run and play and just be free.
The High Line makes this neighborhood a lot better. It brings the community together. And they actually care about us – this community. It’s just a great place. I’m proud of the High Line; so it’s important to me to take care of it.
The High Line is #MyLine.
