Come join performers as they stand on the observation area of the Sunken Overlook facing the street, and create a sound composition in response to traffic patterns seen from above. Participate with your voice, your clap, or small instruments available on site.
Eight singers, standing in the window of the observation area, will create a live sound composition in response to the shifting traffic patterns, following composer, singer and musician, Merche Blasco's previously designed score "Honk 210Hz". Paired with the spontaneous traffic, the piece will trigger specific audio responses: a passing yellow cab might correlate to the singers sustaining a "da da da da da" figure, while a motorcycle will cue an "om" sound, or a bus will trigger one of the bird whistles or percussive instruments.
This performance is a part of Make Music New York, the largest music festival in the city, where more than one thousand free concerts (and participatory music happenings) take place in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City on the first day of summer.
Featured singers include Fjóla Evans, Bridget Hogan, Charlotte Mundy, Dafna Naphtali, Catherine Provenzano, Megan Schubert, Sarah Small, Jessie Lauren Stein, and Emilie Weibel.
