Frequently asked questions

When are free tours available?

Free public tours are available year round. These tours are first come, first served. No reservations are available.

From May 1 through October 31, we offer 90-minute tours of the park, three times a week: Tuesday evenings and Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

From November 1 to April 30, we offer 90-minute winter tours of the park on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Can I reserve a spot in one of the public tours?
No. All public tours of the park are first come, first served. We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour for the best chance of gaining a spot. Look for the Information cart at the top of the Gansevoort Street stairs to register.

Where does the tour meet?
The tour meets on the High Line at the Gansevoort Street entrance at the southern end of the park. You may enter the park via stairs or elevator at the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Streets. Any elevator outages will be noted on the Elevator Status page.

Does the public tour ever get canceled?
Yes. Tours of the park happen rain or shine. However, in case of severe weather, park closure, or if we do not have an available docent, the tour may be canceled. Please check @highlinenyc on Twitter/X for updates.

Are there COVID-19 protocols in place for the tour?
While the federal COVID-19 emergency ended on May 11, 2023, our priority continues to be your health and limiting the spread of COVID-19. For the well-being of our community, we ask that anyone who exhibits any symptoms of COVID-19 or has recently come into contact with someone who has COVID-19 to please stay home.

I’m planning to attend the public tour, but I’m bringing a big group. Should I notify someone?
Yes. We would love to accommodate everyone, but all High Line tours are limited to 20 people and are offered first come, first served. Depending on the number of other guests who show up on a given day, we may not be able to accommodate your entire group.

Advanced notice of groups of 7 to 10 people will allow us to determine whether we need to look for additional docents. Please email tours@thehighline.org as far in advance as possible to let us know your group’s size and the date you plan to attend. For groups of 11 or more, we recommend scheduling a private tour.

If you would like to guarantee that your group will be able to participate in a tour, please schedule a private tour of the High Line for your group.

How do I schedule a private tour of the High Line?
Private tours of the park are available year round during daylight hours. Please request the tour at least three weeks in advance. The rate is determined by the size of your group. All tour revenue directly supports park maintenance and operations. To learn more, visit our Private Tours page.
