Park update: On May 7 from 7am until 3:30pm, the section of the High Line between 16th Street and 23rd Street will be temporarily closed. Visitors may exit at those streets and walk along 10th Avenue to re-enter the park. Stairs and an elevator are available at 23rd Street. At 16th Street, stairs are available.

High Line After School Artist-Scientists Program

The High Line After School Artist-Scientists program combines a series of visits to the High Line with hands-on exploration, art-making, and scientific experiments in the classroom. Encouraged to be both artists and scientists, students use their favorite subject and talents while exploring harder concepts in a new way. They practice critical-thinking and research skills by observing their surroundings, interpreting primary sources, and making sketches and observations. Most importantly, they have fun while forming a deep, lasting relationship with the park and with each other. This after-school program is possible through the support of New York City Council Member Corey Johnson, of the 3rd Council District.
PS 41 Artist Scientists explore the structure and engineering behind the High Line to answer the question “How does the High Line stand up?” Later, they would meet with Michael Laffey, Associate Director of Facilities & Programming at Friends of the High Line.
On a trip to the park, PS 41 Artist Scientists answer the question “How do plants survive on the High Line” with Senior Gardener John Gunderson.
The last question of the year was “How is art different on the High Line?” High Line Art Assistant Curator Melanie Kress provided some answers with a walk and talk through of the new public art exhibition, Wanderlust.Photo by Liz Ligon
