Wang Wei (b. 1972, Beijing, China) lives and works in Beijing, China. Covered Plinth blankets the Spur and the Plinth with a tile mosaic inspired by the alligator tank at the Beijing Zoo. The work references the naturalistic murals often painted behind animal enclosures in zoos, and more widely, about the artificial simulations of nature humans introduce into their built environments.
Major support for the High Line Plinth is provided by Shelley Fox Aarons, Jennifer Allan Soros, Elizabeth Belfer, Suzanne Deal Booth, Fairfax Dorn, Andy and Christine Hall, Hermine Riegerl Heller, J.
